When trying to give your beat an underlying push, you need to repeat some sort of note structure. In this cool beat, the hi-hat and snare lock into a choppy groove that move the beat in a forward direction. Notice how on count four, the bass drum shifts over 1 sixteenth note and gives the end a solid feel. It’s amazing how just moving one little note in your beats can have such a profound effect.
